Your crew. One terrible job.

Tagline

Simple problems. Terrible solutions.

Short description

A 1–6 player co-op physics game about raccoon workers fixing environmental jobs with shovels, pumps and terrible decisions. Reshape the terrain, redirect water and lava, and somehow get the job done together.

Longer description

The jobs are always simple: drain the reservoir, get water to the mill, unblock the river, stop the lava before it reaches the pumping station. How you do it is up to you and your crew. Dig trenches, pile up berms and move dirt wherever the plan needs it. Water runs downhill, fills every hole and follows your channels. Dirt walls hold until the water wears them down. Where water meets lava, the lava turns to stone.

Every fix makes a new problem. The channel that drains one field floods the next, the berm that holds it becomes a reservoir, and a breach isn't game over. It's the next job. Some days it's just digging with friends. Some days the weather has other plans.

The world: the humans have mostly left. Their dams, drains and pipes are still here and failing, and the animals who run things now need someone to fix them. Among animals, raccoons are trash-stealing pests nobody would hire. So the crew of MUCKWORKS Environmental Solutions wears cardboard faces, and as far as the clients can tell, it is a human firm.

Features

  • 1–6 player co-op. Tuned for four, room for six. One job site, one plan that keeps changing.
  • Reshape the ground. Dig, pile and move dirt anywhere. Every shovel changes where the water goes next.
  • Water and lava that respond. Water follows your channels and wears dirt walls down; lava cools to stone where it meets water.
  • Fixes cause problems. Floods, erosion and breaches come from your own plan, and become the next job.
  • Weather with plans of its own. Rain, sandstorms, volcanic activity and new leaks.
  • Talk it out. Built-in proximity voice, a walkie-talkie and a megaphone.

Where it comes from

MUCKWORKS started as a childhood dream. I played From Dust and wanted to be in that world, not floating above it. I wanted to be down on the ground with a shovel while the river changes course around my feet.

It's also every afternoon at the beach. You dig a channel, the sea finds it, your sandcastle wall holds for exactly one wave, and then it doesn't. That feeling of shaping the ground and watching water decide what happens next is the whole game. Now it's with your friends, and the sandcastle is a village.
